Very small particles (nanoparticles) of pure silver are infused in the cotton. Perspiration and moisture electrolyse the silver atoms to produce silver ions (Ag+). The silver ions then "steal" electrons from micro-organisms such as bacteria, viruses and fungi, making them incapable of reproduction and thus killing them. The silver ion then turns back to a silver atom, and the whole process starts again.
Because the silver is infused in the material, it will not wash out. In fact the antibacterial effect will normally outlive the products themselves.
Ag socks have undergone extensive laboratory tests to international standards, confirming their effectiveness against bacteria such as MRSA. In all cases the results show that greater than 99.9% of all bacteria are destroyed within 24 hours.
Yes – they are made from cotton or wool blend. The silver particles are so fine it is impossible to feel them.
